I could probably interview Roy Nelson if I really wanted to, but I know I would criticize him for his actions on and off the mat when it comes down to his fight with Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson on last week’s episode of TUF: Heavyweights.
Since beating Kimbo in the second round due to a TKO of strikes and basically smothering Kimbo (could we legally claim this as attempted murder?), Nelson has been all talk. Even Dana White has commented on the fact that Nelson thinks he did something greater than what actually took place.
“I was watching the video, and I kind of ‘Babe Ruthed’ it. I just called my shot and did it. I did what I wanted,” said Roy Nelson during his interview with MMAjunkie.com Radio.
I’m pretty sure Nelson is referencing the Babe when he became a fat alcoholic slob. Not in his prime. Right? RIGHT? Ugh.
“But then, the second round was more of a point like, ‘Herb, I can do this all day long.’ Herb, I think was afraid to lose his job the way he kept looking at me in the first round,” Nelson also said.
No, I’m pretty sure he was asking himself “what the fuck am I doing?” Now, Roy, don’t hate me because I think you’re a great fighter. But you showed major weakness in your Brazilian JJ. I honestly don’t see why Herb Dean didn’t stand you guys up. I’m sure Herb doesn’t even know why he didn’t.

At the end of the day, Nelson won because he positioned his gut on Kimbo’s face and gave him 44 shots to the head (which weren’t devestating to say the least). Herb stopped the fight for two reasons. One, you did that at the end of round one and Kimbo couldn’t get you off of him. (Roll your hips, Kimbo!) And two, you went for the same gameplan in round two. And Kimbo obviously wasn’t going to get an advantage on your position and you were in no way thinking about transitioning to a better position.
And Kimbo, work on your ground game!

Roy Nelson is a joke of the show. winning that fight how he did and with that attitude really thinking he accomplish a victory. PLEASE…….
I don’t see what the big deal is. Roy is a fat guy and Kimbo is a stand up guy. Why would Roy not use his weight to his advantage? Its part of the game. I think people are just upset and let down by Kimbo’s slack of a ground game. If Kimbo can’t fix his ground game he will continue to be a joke in the MMA community. Roy…
